VIRAL Tito Sotto bashed by netizens by humiliating Single mothers

Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III has made many questionable comments and statements before, but his latest “joke” was taken by many as blatant sexism.
On Wednesday, April 3rd, 2017, Sotto drew flak for his misogynist remarks about Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo’s single motherhood.
This occurred during a hearing by the Commission on Appointments.
According to Rappler, “Sotto was initially questioning Taguiwalo on the rehabilitation plans of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for drug suspects, then he switched to a “lighter side” to ask about Taguiwalo’s personal life.”
The senator asked, “Just on the lighter side, Senator Drilon and I were looking at the personal info about you. You have two children – daughters or sons?”
Taguiwalo said that she has two daughters. Sotto probed further by asking, “But you’re single?”
The relevance of his question notwithstanding, Taguiwalo still chose to answer him and confirmed that she was indeed single.
Sotto then said, “In the street language, when you have children and you are single, ang tawag lang ay na-ano lang.”
This drew the ire of many netizens.
Some pointed out that Ciara Sotto, the senator’s own flesh-and-blood daughter, is herself a single mother and therefore, “na-ano lang.”
However, there were those who took pity on Ciara as well. Raphael Phoebus Ubales pleaded to them to stop tainting Ciara’s name with the issue.
“May I request everyone to stop dragging Ciara Sotto in her father’s mess. If we make memes, call her names, and such, how are we different from Tito Sotto,” Ubales said.
Meanwhile, the controversial senator has issued an apology over his statement. Ciara remains silent about the issue.
What do you think about this? Do you think Ciara deserves to be bashed for her father’s rude and ignorant remarks?
